Chocolate Chip Oat Cookies Test Bake

The finished article!

Often, there are recipes on the back of packages of ingredients. I was given a bag of Marriage’s The Master Millers finest plain white flour that had a recipe for these cookies, on the back.

I thought it would be fun to test bake these. I’ve kept various old packets that have recipes with a view to doing this (but have never done it!) Maybe it’s because the recipe doesn’t particularly appeal to my tastes or that I’ve felt the packaged ingredient played such a small part in the recipe it wasn’t really a true reflection of it’s potential use. I don’t know, but this time, all the planets must have been in alignment, the ingredients were in the cupboard and there seemed little reason not to give it a try.

I am thoroughly thrilled to report that the result was absolutely true to the recipe and instructions. Hooray! I did have to make a small alteration to the sugar. Only because, try as I might, I was unable to procure enough light brown sugar. I had to make it up to the correct quantity with dark brown sugar. I think the only difference was probably the colour of the cookie and maybe, any super tasters out there, would be able to detect a slightly richer flavour. I didn’t bake all of the cookies. I decided to freeze most of the formed balls. When I want them, I take them out of the freezer and put them of a greased baking sheet and bake in the oven at 180oC/350oF/Gas 4 for 15-20mins. Keep an eye on the oven after 15 minutes, just so that they don’t over cook. They don’t spread quite as much as those that haven’t been frozen but they are still delicious!

Have a look at my video for a quick back of the packet recipe test bake and see what you think. I think Marriage’s have done a great job with this recipe!
